Helping Families in Crisis
After years of turmoil, my son was diagnosed with a severe mental disorder. My only thought was,
“What does that mean?”
Now I know: it means living with constant chaos and seeing its impact on the whole family. MIA (Mental Illness Advocates) was born from that experience—to help families in crisis find peace and healing.
Meet Debye
Seven years ago, I began searching for ways to help families like mine—families struggling alongside a loved one with a severe mental illness. I realized that while there were programs to support my son, there was little help for us. We were in constant crisis, and yet invisible.
That’s when God gave me a vision: to create an organization that supports the family—offering healing, guidance, and a path forward. I knew we weren’t alone.
My husband and I attended support groups and classes. We learned a lot, but still felt lost. We were exhausted, stuck, and needed help ourselves. Who could we turn to?
That’s why we started MIA—Mental Illness Advocates. We provide low- or no-cost professional coaches and counselors for parents and siblings, helping them reset, heal, and restart their lives. Our goal is to support families in crisis and build a community ready to face this growing challenge together.
